March sees kennel hit top form (March 29, 2010)

We've had a particularly good month numerically with no fewer than 28 winners so far and there's still some racing left in March. This has definitely helped us close in on the leaders for the Trainers Championship at Oxford which the kennel are desperate to retain this year. We're already way ahead of where we were last year and we've also got some nice young pups hitting the track soon including Jakes Pride.

Of all the winners we've had, it was almost a relief to see Indigo Honey finally get her nose in front. After running very encouragingly on her debut where she was beaten a short-head, she ran another 9 times without success. She lacks early pace and has always been left with too much to do. She ran poorly last week after a lay-off but that run had clearly sharpened her up. She got up right on the line on Sunday and I was pleased for her owner more than anything else. I've got to be hopeful that with luck in running; there will be plenty more to come from her.

Killishin Sixty was quite rightly a warm order on his last two starts and he's clearly showing something like his very best form now. He won an A1 well on March 18 from kennelmate Gortkelly Nani but he stepped up on that and was simply awesome when winning again on March 25. The time was good and I'd like to go Open racing with him if there's anything suitable out there. Whether we can find the right race for him remains to be seen otherwise I am sure he'll continue to prove hard to beat around Oxford.

Applegreen Boy has not been out of the first 3 in 5 starts for the kennel. He's proving to be a fantastic purchase and ran a stormer to take an A2 last week. Look at his times and you'll see he's improving fast and I am delighted that he's now going to be running in A1's. He only cost £550!

We have a few other A1 dogs who are itching for a run so I'll also be keeping an eye out for possible Opens for them too. With the kennel in such good form, we'll take a look at Romford this Friday and see if anything stands out.

I am off to Denmark shortly and have my own dog, Fridays Mal already out there ready for the Sprinters Cup. I will probably be taking a couple of dogs for other owners as well but Fridays Mal should go close to winning the competition. It's run over a straight course and he's already run with great promise (just a couple of lengths off the track record) so I'll let you know how he gets on in my next update.
